Gary - fine … Gary - fine workmanship, and a great bench to boot! The butterfly inlays are a nice touch. I’m envious of your IKEA bargain - how thick is their “butcher block”? Best, GFD
The bottom of the … The bottom of the trough slides fro side to side so that I can empty the dust. Also there is a hole in one corner that I connect a shop vac to for emptying the dust. So look at it as a long dovetailed drawer with a movable bottom.
Amazing bench Gary! … Amazing bench Gary! I would love a copy of your plans. I have spent many of hours trying to think of a design. It’s safe to say this bench is a winner.I really love the butcher block top.
I build a little … I build a little bit of everything. I see why people only build only one bench in their lifetime. That tail vise was the most complicated thing to do. I also made one that was identical to Norm Abrams ( not sure of correct spelling of last name ) from his book. I gave that one to my father so that I could built the one in the video. I will be making more videos shortly because I’ve seen videos on youtube that can be explained better.
The top is made up … The top is made up of 3pcs that are 6in wide. The sides are splined together without glue for alignment. To keep the pieces tight I used three long threaded rods ( one on each side and one in the center ) with a nut on each side of rods to tighten the top together. If one of the top pieces begin to deep or spread apart, Just loosen the rods and realign and then tighten the rods again. Hopes this helps you.
